This was the first time that I have been to the National Neuroscience Institute’s (NNI) Advanced Neuroradiology Course despite living in Singapore for over 10 years. I tend to limit the number of conferences I attend as I find that the practical educational return for the amount of money and time spent is poor. I want to learn things that will make a big practical difference to my day to day reporting and learn how to arrive at a diagnosis rather than just see examples of cases. To spend 5-7 days with travel, to only learn and retain a handful of things is what puts me off attending too many conferences.
However, the NNI Advanced Neuroradiology Course which was two days, three if you went to the interventional workshop, at a very reasonably price, with a good selection of topics and speakers and all in your home town seemed to be a good deal. It was well organised by Dr Sumeet Kumar and the organising comittee, and was well worth going to.
Two speakers who stood out were Dr Dong Joon Kim from Korea and Dr Mark Van Buchem from the Netherlands.
Dr Kim gave a very comprehensive talk on Intracranial Vertebrobasilar Dissection and Dr Van Buchem’s talk on cerebral micro bleeds was a good overview and introduced tumefactive amyloid which in my 20 years of work I have never seen. This made me read up some journals on tumefactive amyloid and a summary of the key findings is here.
Overall, I would highly recommend attending the NNI Neuroradiology Course, even more so if you live in the region. Link to the 2016 Course here.
